Garegin Ter-Harutyunyan (Garegin Nzhdeh) (1 January 1886) was an Armenian statesman. As a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, he was involved in revolutionary activities in the First Balkan War, World War I and in the First Republic of Armenia. On September 4, 1919, Garegin Nzhdeh arrived in Syunik (Zangezur) with his small detachment. The Nzhdeh detachment heroically resisted the attacks of the Musawat Azerbaijani armies and Turkish generals Nur and Khalil Pasha. He is considered a national hero by Armenians.
